By becoming a vassal, the player is first given control over a a poor village which can be managed. Renown is an important attribute and allows the player to achieve a higher standing in the game and eventually be offered vassalage by the leaders of one of the six factions.
If the player wins the battle, they gain this renown. Each battle is given a renown value, depending on the party size and power of the members of each party. Upon encountering enemy parties, the player can try to avoid a conflict, or engage in a battle with them. The game has an overland map which is used for traveling which is done by simply clicking the desired destination on the map. The player selects a gender and facial features, then answers a series of multiple-choice questions about the character's past, which generate the character's initial attributes which the player can add to afterwards.
